Prophet Muhammad's Final Days (The Journey to Allah)

The Call to Islam was completed.

The New Faith dominated.

Prophet Muhammad started to develop grave symptoms. The angel Jibreel reviewed Quran twice with him and not once in that year.

In 11AH, after praying farewell prayer for the martyrs, he said:

"I am to precede you and I have been made witness upon you. By Allah, you will meet me at the Hawd (tank) very soon. I have been given the keys of the treasures of the Earth. By Allah, I do not fear for you a return to polytheism after me, but I do fear that you will compete with each other in acquiring worldly riches."

Start of Disease

Muhammad in 11AH begins to have headaches, temperature rise so high that heat could be felt over his head covering.

The Last Week

Aisha would recite Al Muawwidhat (Chapters 113 and 114 of the Quran), blow on her hands, and rub them on Muhammad's body for blessings.

Five Days Before Death

On Wednesday, Muhammad's temperature rose very high, fainted, and suffered from pain. He went to the masjid, and said

"The curse of Allah upon the Jews and Christians as they made their Prophets' graves places of worship"

"Do not make my grave a worshipped idol"

Four Days Before Death

On Thursday, Muhammad said, "Come here I will have you write something through you will ever fall into error"

Umar RA said "Muhammad is suffering from acute pain and you have the Quran with you; the book of Allah is sufficient for you"

Muhammad grew so sick that he could not overcome the strains of disease or go to the Masjid. He fainted every time Aisha RA gave him water to wake him up. Thus, he sent Abu Bakr RA to lead the prayers.

A Day or Two Prior to Death

On Saturday or Sunday, Muhammad felt well enough to perform prayer Dhuhr. Abu Bakr RA was leading the people in prayer and withdrew, Prophet SAWS sat next to the left hand side of Abu Bakr RA and raised his voice at every "Allahu Akbar" so that the people may hear clearly.

The Last Day He was alive

While Muslims were performing Fajr on Monday, being led by Abu Bakr RA, Muhammad was raising the curtain of Aishah's room. Abu Bakr RA withdrew and asked Prophet if he wanted to come for prayer. Anas RA said, the Muslims were so delighted as they were praying that they almost were taken away from prayers. Muhammad said to continue to the prayers and went into the room and closed down the curtain.

Muhammad SAWS was not alive for the next prayer.

During day time, Prophet SAWS called Fatimah and related to her something in a low voice which made her cry. Then he whispered something else which made her life. Aisha RA said, "the first time he disclosed me that he would not recover from his illness and I wept", "then, he told me that I would be the first of his family to join him".

Fatimah RA witnessed great pain that was afflicted on her father. She said "What great pain my father is in", Prophet SAWS said

"He will not suffer any more when the day is over"

He asked Hasan and Hussain to join him, and he preached to them, to remember Allah.

The pain grew so severe that the trace of the poison which he had at Khaibar came to light. It was so sore that he said to Aisha RA, I still feel the pain of food that I had tasted at Khaibar.. I feel as if death is approaching"

Prophet Breathes His Last

When the pangs of death began, Aisha RA leaned him against herself. She said "He died between my chest and neck while he was leaening against me. Allah has mixed his saliva with mine at his death" As Aisha softened the Siwak of Abdul Rehman Ibn Abu Bakr and gave it to Muhammad with saliva and he passed it (on his deeth).
