Muhammad's arrival and the vigorous rise of the new spirit of Islam negated that program and the idea was dropped. Seeing someone else (Muhammad) depriving him and his agents of the proposed superior position.
Abdullah Ibn Ubai was not be pleased, and for obvious reasons he showed an overt desire for Islam but with disbelief deeply rooted in his heart. He also used to exploit certain events and the weak-hearted new converts to use them in his nasty schemes against the true believers.
