Etymology and Terminology

• The word Shaytaan is derived from the root (Shatan).The Arabic term šayṭān (Arabic: شَيْطَان) originated from the triliteral root š-ṭ-n ("distant, astray") - meaning impure and base. 
• It is an entity that is rebellious irrespective of whether is of humans or jinn, a nefarious soul distant from Allah azzawajal and the truth. 

Quranic Evidence

"And so We have made for every prophet enemies—devilish humans and jinn—whispering to one another with elegant words of deception. Had it been your Lord’s Will, they would not have done such a thing. So leave them and their deceit," [Quran 6:112]

Nature of Jinn and Shayateen

Jinn are in the Ghaib (unseen), and made of smokeless fire. The both kind of Shayateen are trying to lead mankind to evil deeds, we cannot hear or see the whispering (Jinn), but it can also be from humans who whisper bad deeds such as drink alcohol, come partying etc.

Origin and Role of Iblis (Lucifer)

Jinns were making choices before Adam AS was even created. Lucifer or Iblees comes from the Jinns. He was a worshipper of Allah azzawajal and He raised him to the status of the angels. Angels don't make mistakes, they do what Allah commands them.

When Allah created Adam AS, he made him from mud or baked clay. Allah ordered all the angels to bow down to Adam, except Iblis, he refused. Iblis was not an angel, as supported by Quran itself. (18:50), Iblis refused as he was in a state of takabbur (pride, ego) asserting that Adam was merely made of clay, meanwhile he was made from fire.

Consequences of Iblis's Disobedience

Arrogance is the oldest and deadliest sin in history of Allah's creation, Satan accepted his fate and asked Allah for respite to try to lead mankind including himself to Jahannam. In this way, he put himself in the worst possible condition with Allah azzawajal.

Concept of Kibr (Pride)

Kibr (pride) in the Arabic language, which comes from Kabara, which is the root of the word Akbar, and only Allah SWT is Akbar and He is greater than anything that exists, as He created the concept existence itself.

No human being, jinn, or angel, or any creation of Allah azzawajal has the right to question and disobey the command of Allah. Thus, Satan marked his evil fate and did injustice to his own soul and was condemned for hellfire for eternity.

Purpose of Shayateen in the World

Everyone thinks that because of Shaitaan we commit sins. Why did Allah create Shaitaan? Shaitaan cannot do anything more than whispering. Before Iblees became Shaitaan, there was no Shaitaan right? Who told Iblees to disobey Allah's command? There was no Shaitaan before him, Iblees did it because of his 'nafs' If there was no Shaitaan, we would still have nafs, and commit sins.

This world is a test for the mankind and jinnkind. Iblees is also in this test, as he is among the Jinn and has nafs. Allah SWT didn't create Iblis as Iblis, Iblis chose to be from the Shayateen. Not only Iblees, but other Shayateen are choosing to be Shaytaan by disobeying Allah's commands in real time.

Leadership and Influence of Iblis

This life is nothing more than a TEST. Iblees was first of all Shayateen therefore he is a LEADER of them All Shayateen are TOOLS for Iblees, even though they are also part of the TEST.
